A/N: The title of this particular drabble comes from the poem “Tell All The Truth” by Emily Dickinson.

Summary: Harry Potter teaches Severus Snape that, although the truth might be surprising, it's never -ever- premature.
 

The Truth's Superb Surprise.

Severus turned away, silently rejecting Potter's kiss. He felt too fragile for anger. Too disappointed. Too wounded.
“This was a mistake. Please go home, Harry.”

“But you wanted me to stay. I don't understand...”

Severus jerked away, looking absolutely shattered.
“I heard you floo-calling your friends while I was in the kitchen. You were boasting about... this.”

“Severus...”

”You want a casual affair while I...”

“Yes?”

“I don't do casual. I...”

“You?...”

“I fall.”

“Then fall, sweetheart. I promise to catch you.”

Severus blinked:
“Sweetheart? Aren't terms of endearment a bit too premature?”

“The truth is never premature, my love.”

Oh. the wounded Severus. Falling for all the wrong people, until Harry! ^_^
and I wonder if Harry was really boasting or if he was just so excited that Severus was accepting him that he just need to tell his friends how happy he was.

there's a lot of promise in their relationship here. the start of something wonderful. and I think Severus is going to going to be called a lot more things after sweetheart. He'll get used to it ^_^

I think you are right when you say that Harry was just so relieved to have been accepted that he couldn't resist contacting his friends. Severus being Severus, though, will always be suspicious of anyone's intentions, at least initially. Hopefully Harry will cure him of that habit in the not so distant future with plenty more terms of endearments and all their associated goodies... :)

Sometimes I think that Severus is not a master spy but master of misunderstanding. I know that it could be because of his insecurity, but sometimes it is just... stupid. I'm pretty sure that Harry was just so happy that finally he is with Severus that he had to floo Ron and Hermione.
Sweetheart is a very good word to describe Severus :) I think that he likes it, but hush! You don't know it from me.

True. Severus can be too suspicious for his own good sometimes. I'm pretty sure that Harry was just so happy about having convinced Severus to give him a chance that he just had to tell his friends about it, but you know Sev... Thinking the worst of everyone first is second nature to him. Hopefully Harry will slowly teach him to leave behind all that lack of trust and have more faith in him and yes, I believe Severus likes being called a sweetheart, even if he'll never admit to it out loud... ;D

Oh, it always makes me kind of sad, when Severus is so insecure and full of fears because never anybody bothered to love him properly, like he deserves. I am glad he has Harry for that now:)

True. Seeing Severus surrender to emotional insecurity is a heartbreaking thing indeed, although I've always imagined that he'll be precisely like this, deep down. Obviously I also always imagine that Harry will be on hand to help heal each and every one of Severus' emotional wounds. Hopefully he'll do just that here. :)
