Summary: Despite what many may think Severus Snape has a friend. A very good friend. A best friend, even. A friend who has been through thick and thin with him...

 

What Friends Are For.

“This is a terrible idea, Severus.”

“I never said it wasn't.”

“Potter is Draco's age. He could be your son, for Merlin's sake!”

Hogwarts' Headmaster shifts uncomfortably in his chair.
“I wish he was older, too.”

“He's the blasted Boy-Who-Lived. He could have anyone he wants. Risking your reputation for him is insane...”

Severus' answer disarms him:
“I love him, Luc.”

Lucius' blood runs cold.
“Why him?  He'll break your heart. He'll...”

“I need a friend, not a lecture.”

“I know that.”

Severus sags with relief.
“Then you'll... support... me?”

“Through thick and thin, Severus. That's what friends are for.”

My dear, do you know that your works are better than Polish modern literature (I should read it, the day after tomorrow is my last exam before my diploma exam). And I love my modern literature so... I love yours drabble more ^^
Yes, relationship with Harry could be a very bad idea, but damn it, love is always good and Severus deserves happiness! I'm so glad that Lucius is so good friend even if he doesn't approve this.

Looks like we are both literature nutters, although I'm more into classical English/Spanish literature than modern anything. My favorite book of all time is Pride and Prejudice, so that should give you a clue as to the depth of my... madness. ;D

I agree with you on the point that Severus deserves happiness. Taking a risk for love is probably one of the worthier causes out there to take risks at all. I'm thrilled that you liked how Lucius decided to support Severus even though he didn't agree with Sev's decision to give Harry a chance. I think that's the real mark of a true friend: they might disagree with us, but they do stand by our side come hell or high water.

Shame on me, but I've never read Pride and Prejudice. But I pass my exam today (yay!!) and after diploma exam I want to read a lot of books and Jane Austen is on the top of my list.
I don't have one favorite book, but I love Bulgakov's Master and Margarita. And Stephen King's books (Shining and Duma Key the most). And I want to rea this new JKR book too.
Yeah, literature nutter :D

Yes. Lucius was being a very good friend indeed and I heartily agree with you on the point that they are worrying about nothing. Harry does adore Severus, although we both know that slytherins like to worry about everything, don't we? That's what they all are, once you dig deep enough: dangerously clever little worrywarts, the lot of them... ;D

we always see how terrible lucius can be...it's darn nice to see him just as severus' best friend. pointed out the obvious flaws in the situation, then support.

It's true that Lucius tends to be portrayed in a rather unpleasant light, but I've always liked the idea that he could have been Severus' loyal friend all along...

I just love Sev and Luc as best friends. Lucius' concern was palpable, he just wants to keep his friend safe from heartbreak. <3
