A/N1: Both the title and summary of this particular drabble come from a quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln.
A/N2: Wrote two very different drabbles in response to this prompt and couldn’t make up my mind about which one to post, so I’m posting them both.
 

No Honorable Way.

Harry leans against the door, wishing himself unaware of why, exactly, Severus suddenly finds his left arm so fascinating.

His lover is lost in thought, gone somewhere Harry can’t follow. Severus’ failure to lean on him while he wrestles with the demons his official pardon awakened makes Harry wonder if Severus realizes Harry loves all of him, darkest corners included.

“You all right?” Harry asks, leaving the far more telling ‘let me in’ unspoken.

“You think I deserve it.”

“What, the pardon?”

“All this happiness.”

“Yes. You deserve it.”

“But I’m-

“A murderer like me. Like every war hero, Severus.”

True. Harry was very tough here, but I think Severus needed to hear what he had to say. Yes, they're lucky enough to have one another, and that means they'll be all right in the long run. :)

Severus definitely needed to hear what Harry had to say. They'll be all right in the long run as long as they learn to lean on one another. Severus might struggle with that for a while, but it looks like Harry has his back. :)

That is very true. ALthough the truth Harry just unleashed on Severus is especially harsh, regardless of how much Sev needed to hear it. Hopefully, Harry will take care of him now, and Severus will end up better off in the long run. :)

Ouch! Painful part of being a survivor is the guilt.

True. Survivor guilt is definitely one of the hardest parts of surviving war, of surviving anything, really. My better half works in mental health and was employed by a VA hospital for several years, survivor guilt, along with PTSD, were the order of the day during that time.

You think I deserve it.
For a moment I thought 'what, the Dark Mark?!' (and everything it stands for)
((I don't know which is more sombre - Severus' thought that he doesn't deserve happiness, or mine that Severus would think that he deserves all the bad that had happened in his life))

I think both thoughts are equally sombre, but things are certainly looking up now that Harry is involved because he certainly doesn't believe that Severus deserves anything other than perfect, total happiness, and I doubt he plans to stop reminding his Sev of that before the thought becomes second nature to him. :D
