An Acceptable Risk.

The -sadly- already familiar reek of Pot-no-Harry’s inability to cook greets Severus as he steps out of the Floo. He stills beside the hearth, shudders instinctively, and contemplates scarpering. ‘There’s shepherd’s pie at Hogwarts.’

Then the sound of Po-no-Harry’s happy humming and enthusiastic pan-rattling reaches his ears, and he smiles despite the smell. ‘I’m doomed’ he sighs, and heads towards the kitchen.

P-no-Harry welcomes him via cheeky blown kiss and, as his heart swells with the simple joy of being here, Severus realizes that, terrible cooking aside, Harry is an acceptable risk. He is safety, hope, delight. He is— happiness.

But I always thought Harry could cook? Hmm maybe he is putting on a show for Severus to prove that love conquers everything? LOL

"But I always thought Harry could cook?" LOL. I've always thought that, with the Dursleys' forcing him to cook when he was little, Harry could have gone either way. He could have grown up to like cooking and become awesome at it; or to hate it so much that he can't cook to save his life as an adult. I usually pick whichever version suits me best depending on my plot. ;)

In any case, it's true that Severus will have to prove his love by eating this awful dinner, but I'm sure Harry is worth the trouble. ^.~

Aww, I'm a warm, mushy, melted puddle on the floor now.

Yep, Severus is doomed to happiness. He says he's already familiar with the reek which means this is just the latest in a long row of dinners. He slips up with how to call Harry - which means it's probably still quite early in their partnership. BUt, even if it's only in his mind, he rigorously corrects himself every time it happens. And he is lured in (maybe against his better judgement) when he hears Harry's humming. And that's even before the kiss! ^^

I'm so glad Severus has found safety, hope, delight in Harry.

(But, really, maybe he should give him some books on cooking or a joint cooking session - which might be really hot :P)

LOL. Yep, Severus is definitely doomed to be happy in this one, and you are right in each and every one of the assumptions you made about the frame of their relationship here, based on the little details I left. :D

The original draft this started as had Severus stepping into Harry's flat carrying a posh bottle of wine, ready to enjoy his latest date with his relatively new boyfriend, only to discover that it was the kind of date in which Harry had decided to cook for him. That version of the story got scrapped due to what I laughingly call "The Curse Of The One Hundreds" which is just a fancy name to say that the original drabble was too long and had to be heavily trimmed, thus losing a lot of the detail I had initially written into the boys' relationship.

I'm pretty sure Severus will eventually coach Harry into cooking better but, at least for now, they are still too new a couple for my usual emotionally-insecure version of Severus to feel safe enough to criticize his man too much, but that moment will come eventually and then their dinners will be something to enjoy rather than an ordeal to be endured. ^.~
