Harry hates the way his lover always hesitates before entering his chambers, clearly waiting for either permission or welcome, but what really breaks his heart is Severus' refusal to spend the entire night in his arms.

“Why do you always do that?”

Severus frowns, clearly puzzled.
“Why do I do what?”

“Tell me you left a potion on the fire before you even say hello.”

“I'm just... letting you know I can't stay.”

Harry laughs, bitterly angry.
“Can't or won't?”

“Harry...”

“Please get into your head that I. Love. You.  I will not leave you, Severus.  You are my happily-ever-after.”

They'll be fine, ada. Harry will keep on telling Severus how much he loves him and eventually he'll manage to erode those mighty self-defenses. Then they'll be properly happy together. :D

True. This one was slightly sad, but then you can't really have permission without some sort of denial, so this prompt didn't leave me many options to work with, pat. I'm sure the boys will be fine in the end, Harry is way too stubborn to let Severus go and if Severus has gotten this far into their relationship, then his heart is definitely involved. He just has to trust Harry properly, and Harry will help him do that. :D

"I will not leave you, Severus." I fear that Harry will have to repeat this many times until it sinks into Severus's (I almost said thick skull) broken heart. After all, they all *have* left him in the end: Lily, his mother probably, Albus, Minerva, Filius, and whom ever else he might have called "friend" - before they abondoned him. That's the experience of a lifetime.

But Harry is nothing if not insistent :) I'm sure he'll get the message through in the end. And then it will be happily-ever-after for both of them. (And I would love to be able to see the expression in Sev's eyes, when he realizes that Harry is true, when he sheds his fear and *knows* that this is true love he is being offered -and when he accepts this truth of love with all his heart.)

((Oh, you always do that to me: I get this flittering feeling in my stomach, my heart squeezes and there is so much of everything tumbling inside of me... And the out come these mushy comments... Huh... See what you do?))

LOL. I agree with you on the point that Harry will have to keep telling Severus that he has no plans to leave him until he's managed to erode all the pesky defenses his love has learned to build around his wounded heart.

I would love to see Severus' face too, when he finally learns that putting his faith in Harry is the one decision he'll never live to regret. :D

I'm glad my drabbles manage to touch you so deeply, teryarel, so I'm not going to apologize for causing all these 'mushy' comments. I don't think they are all that mushy actually. They are very thoughtful and show a level of insight into Severus' heart that often leaves me smiling from ear to ear. I love 'seeing' my Severus through your eyes so, please, keep sharing him with me every now and then, my friend. :D
