Harry’s Downfall.

Harry is no impressionable newbie. He’s been round the block and back, constantly resisting these shady bastards’ dirty tricks. He’s never been bribed or seduced, never even been tempted. Until now.

To be fair Snape should be working at Hogwarts, the Ministry, St. Mungo’s; yet he's trapped in Knockturn Alley  with the rest of the riff-raff. Harry fears that Snape’s come-hither smile isn’t mere conflict of interest. It’s survival instinct, desperation, Slytherin pragmatism seizing obvious opportunity.

He should walk away. Keep his besotted heart safe. But he’s weak, oh-so-weak. Snape is smiling encouragingly, and hope—hope will be Harry’s downfall.

Hmmm. I suppose I should never say never, but this is all there is to this particular universe for the time being, at least from me. My RL is crazy right now, to the point that I'm already struggling to keep up with my weekly drabbles, so I'm not willing to commit myself to penning a long multi-chapter fic at the moment. I wouldn't mind reading such a story, though, if someone else is willing to write it. ;)

Anyway, thank you both: sarahsezlove and dracdauter, for letting me know that this little one intrigued you enough to want to see what happens next. That sort of encouraging comment is what keeps the old muse well fed! <3

This is so bleak. I want more. I need to know if Harry is being a fool.

I think the whole point of this one is that nobody gets to know whether Harry is being a fool or not, not even Harry himself. I know he is aware of the conflict of interest inherent in his choice between his auror career and his wish to allow himself to fall for Severus' seduction, but I was playing with the idea that the truest conflict of interest anyone can ever face is the decision to set aside our chance to get what we truly want in order to settle for what we think we can have. I'm with you there, though. I hope Harry doesn't settle. :)

Anyway, I'm thrilled that you enjoyed that particular sentence so much, sassy_cat, it's my favorite one in the drabble, too. Thanks for taking the time to both read and review another work of mine. Your kind and lovely comment was greatly appreciated. <3
