I think Severus cares about Harry in his own way, he's used to looking after him and making sure he's safe, so it's probably instinctive for him to try and protect him from anyone wanting to take advantage of his caring nature. There must be some affection there, even though it is probably being suffocated to death under layers of unromantic ideas like "duty", "Gryffindor ex-student" and "platonic"... Hopefully things will shift for the better once he finally realizes what's really going on.
