I agree with your point about Severus not needing to be quite so stubborn all the time, but you know how all those crazy Slytherins are... they like to protect themselves, no matter what, and in that sense Severus is probably behaving exactly as he should.
Thank Merlin for Harry's infinite patience, though, since we wouldn't be able to enjoy much snarry around here if it wasn't for our favourite lion's loving determination to get his man.
