I think the problem here is that Draco is a bit of a Drama Queen. He could have gone to his favorite cafe; he just chose not to. Since he was in the mood for self-punishing, asking his house elves to pamper him instead would have been counterproductive. At least his antics allowed Harry to intercept him. All's well that ends well and all that. :D :D :D
