I think the fact that Severus seems so real while Harry doesn't has more to do with the way this fic is set up than anything else. The story is told from Sev's perspective and he spends most of it either doubting Harry's intentions or waiting for the other shoe to drop. The problem with these two, as I see them, isn't wether or not Severus is worthy of Harry, but the fact that he himself doesn't believe he is. That, coupled with how easy it is for everyone out there to confuse lust, deep friendship or any other strong emotion with actual love, would have made anyone who ever lived a life as hard as Severus' own deeply distrustful of Harry's avowals of affection.
I think all of us hope to find someone out there who will not only be willing, but also capable, of loving us with this kind of patient devotion and I honestly believe that, if we're lucky enough to stumble onto the right person, one who is moved not by lust or convenience or whatever else, but genuine, actual love, then there's no reason to imagine that we wouldn't.
For all that hatred and greed and petty, bullying behaviour are all, unfortunately, more real and widespread than I'd like them to be, love is also real. And it does, indeed, move mountains. So let us both hope with everything we've got that, when it finally touches our lives, it'll decide to stay for good. And let us hope for that as loudly as we can, because if there's a wish out there more fit than this one to be shouted out from the nearest rooftop then I certainly haven't encountered it yet. :)
Good luck and thanks, once again, for putting up not only with this monster fic of mine, but also with my crazy ramblings. :D
