LOL. I agree with you on the point that Severus' insistence in hiding would have driven Harry to pursue him even more determinedly. Poor Sev should really know better than to run from a lion by now, shouldn't he? ;)
I love your thoughts on the nature of Severus' inner voice, how you see him changing as the nature of it guides him first into the bad decisions of his youth, then into regretting them, and now it's attempting to push him into seizing a more positive sort of opportunity. You are right, Severus -or at least his inner self- is finally starting to believe that he deserves, and should pursue, something better for himself. He is definitely on a good way, as you said, and now that Harry is involved he'll be even better. ;)
