LOL. They are fanfare, in a way, but they are also kind of an accepted expression of one's feelings, so they can be used in the most sincere way possible too. I think it's important to remember that love is not chocolate, or flowers, or whatever other token of affection we receive in it's name. But love can also be renewed, re-expressed and even re-sparked with something as simple as those things too. Romance exists for a reason and although I, personally, wouldn't give it up for all the gold in China I think Severus will probably be happier with a little less sparkle. He's the walk in the park and cuddle in the fireside couch with a glass of wine and witty conversation kind of man, and that... well, that's love too, isn't it? :D
