LOL. Severus does sound rather grumpy in those particular lines, doesn't he? :)
In answer to your question I'll say that starduchess got it right, Mathew is a friend of Teddy at school. He's an OC, and his presence doesn't add anything to the storyline apart from the fact that his existence allowed me to fulfill the 'Christmas birthday' prompt.
Now with regards to Teddy's full name I must confess that I know very little about the next gen characters. I tend to avoid them like the plague but, since I needed Teddy's wild magic to explain why Severus Snape, ex-spy extraordinaire, dark arts practitioner and competent duelist to boot ended up being the victim of a curse instead of the cursee, I, too, searched Teddy's full name online. I found the information on both the harrypotter.wikia and the harrypotterfanon.wikia. I, too, have seen Teddy referred to as Theodore in loads of fics, but I decided to search it, instead of using the name blindly, because I always found it weird that Theodore Nott's name gets shortened to 'Theo' while Teddy gets stuck with his own. That shouldn't happen at all if they share the same name. :D
Anyway, thank you, teryarel, for your kind and lovely comment, and the rest of you for getting involved in this interesting discussion about whether little Teddy Lupin is really an Edward or a Theodore. I wish I knew the answer to that for sure. :D
