Ignoring Life.

Harry finds his oblivious crush drowning another book in red ink and chuckles despite himself.
“You forgot it's pub-night again.”

“Hmmmm.”

“It's the sixth time in a row, Severus.”

“Indeed.”  His colleague answers, clearly distracted, and Harry's bitter smile softens around the edges, becoming less frustrated, more wistful. Resigned.

“You should have been a Ravenclaw.”

“Pfft!”  Severus snorts, and Harry freezes.  'Maybe, just maybe...'

“Corrugated shells aren't fire-resistant.”

“Or maybe not.”  Harry whispers, deflated.

“What was that, Potter?”

“Nothing.  I just—sometimes I wish you'd stop reading your life away.”

“Pardon?”

“Look at me!  I'm here: waiting for you, Severus.”

Ada is right, poor Harry. But on the other side - what must have happened in his life, that Severus would rather live his life in his books than face the world outside.
I hope that Harry will be there to show Severus that there is something worthwile in the real world.
And I hope those two will be able to live a life together that will surpass any book ever written - because it would be life itself, not fiction.
(Isn't it strange to think in such way about fictional characters?)

I think Severus has always been inclined to hide from his troubles in either his potions or his books. I understand that he didn't have all that much of a personal life to look forwards to during the wars, and maybe he's grown accustomed to behaving in this way, but now that Harry has dared to inform him that there's something else out there, I'm pretty sure he'll be willing to put his books aside for a while and... investigate... further.:D

And I hope those two will be able to live a life together that will surpass any book ever written - because it would be life itself, not fiction.
(Isn't it strange to think in such way about fictional characters?) Yes. It is strange, but it is also fitting. Fictional characters that have the power to affect people to this level are both rare and precious in and of themselves. They are also the mark of a great author and JKR created not one or two, but many that are unforgettable in their own way.

I write snarry because I want Severus to have the kind of loving future he never got to live in cannon. Yes, I know it is strange to feel this way about someone who was never really 'alive', but then he is so very real to me, and that is all that matters in the end. :D
